JCS takes part in the planning of the meetings, incentive travel, conventions, and exhibitions/events (MICE) criteria initiated by an international organization promoting sustainable tourism

JCS will participate in the planning stage of the development of the MICE criteria promoted by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

GSTC is an international non-profit organization launched in 2007 with the aim of promoting and creating international standards for sustainable tourism. To date, standards have been developed for the tourism industry (GSTC-I: mainly for hotels and tour operators) and for destinations (GSTC-D). In response to the recent global momentum for MICE sustainability initiatives, GSTC launched a global project this spring to develop a new MICE criteria for next spring.

In recognition of our extensive experience and expertise in the MICE industry, JCS was the only Japanese entity and the only professional congress organizer* to be chosen to participate as a key stakeholder member of the initial stages of developing the MICE criteria. We will be providing multiple rounds of intensive feedback on the drafts.

In Japan, Japan Tourism Agency and United Nations World Tourism Organization Regional Support Office for Asia and the Pacific issued the GSTC-D compliant Japan Sustainable Tourism Standard for Destinations to support local governments and destination management organizations in their practice of sustainable tourism destination management in accordance with the global standards. The upcoming MICE criteria development is also likely to boost Japan’s international competitiveness in MICE.

To accelerate the recovery of inbound tourism in Japan, we are committed to collaborating and coordinating with diverse stakeholders to develop and expand the MICE industry.
